The entrance to Waterfall Village can be accessed in a couple of ways: either via Hwy 550 to Trimble Lane or through a more scenic route along County Rd 203. Upon entering the subdivision, visitors are greeted by a row of mailboxes on the right side of the road and a set of townhomes on the left. One of the unique features of this neighborhood is its proximity to a waterfall, located directly west of the entrance, across County Road 203. The sound of the waterfall is especially clear during the evenings in the spring runoff period. Historically, the area encompassing Waterfall Village was part of a broader vision of transforming the Animas Valley from a farming to a residential area. This vision was shared by John Zink, a notable figure in the Durango community, particularly in the late 1960s. His plan for the area's development led to the creation of subdivisions like Waterfall Village, Blue Sky, and Rancho Bueno Tiempo, as well as the Hermosa Meadows Campground.
